1. Motion was made and seconded to consider approval of the minutes of the February 25, 2005 Core Curriculum Council meeting. A motion was made, seconded and approved to amend the minutes. The motion to approve the corrected minutes passed with four abstentions.

2. Motion was made and seconded to consider new course THR 3733, Theatre History, Literature and Criticism II, for Core Humanities credit.

Dr. Susan Cole explained that the course will be the second in a series of three courses. The other two courses already
have   the same Core and designator credit being sought for this course.

      The motion passed unanimously.

3. Motion was made and seconded to consider new course, THR 3733, Theatre History, Literature and Criticism II, for W designator. The motion passed unanimously.

4. Motion was made and seconded to consider new course THR 3733, Theatre History, Literature and Criticism II, for CD designator.

Dr. Cole explained that the course seeks to put theatre in its proper political and social context. Course content draws
from other fields, including literature and architecture.

      The motion passed unanimously.

5. Motion was made and seconded to consider new course THR 3733, Theatre History, Literature and Criticism II, for MC designator.

Dr. Cole explained that although the course focuses predominantly on European theatre, it does explore
non-European theatre, particularly Japanese and other Asian cultures.

      The motion passed unanimously.

6. Motion was made and seconded to delete Core Humanities credit and W and MC designators from THR 2712, Survey of Dramatic Literature, in anticipation of the course being deleted from the curriculum. The motion passed unanimously.

7. Motion was made and seconded to consider special topics course IDS/FCS/HIS 3536, Foodways: Seeds of Change, for Core Social Science credit.

Dr. Ward noted that this course is an example of the effort by the Provost's Cabinet on Interdisciplinarity to get more
courses team-taught by faculty from different departments.

      The motion passed unanimously.

8. Motion was made and seconded to consider special topics course IDS/FCS/HIS 3536, Foodways: Seeds of Change, for CD designator. The motion passed unanimously.

9. Motion was made and seconded to consider special topics course IDS/FCS/HIS 3536, Foodways: Seeds of Change, for MC designator. The motion passed unanimously.

11. Motion was made and seconded to consider special topics course IDS/HIS/MGT xxxx, Issues in Mexican Immigration, Past and Present, for MC designator. The motion passed unanimously.

12. Motion was made and seconded to consider removal of the W designator from CHE 2210, Quantitative Analysis. After discussion about the best way to proceed with the proposals from the Chemistry department, the motion was withdrawn.

13. Motion was made and seconded to remove the W designator from CHE 2210, Quantitative Analysis, and to consider new course CHE 2211, Quantitative Analysis Laboratory, for W designator.

Dr. Tom Rhyne explained that CHE 2210 had previously included both lecture and lab, but now there would be separate
course numbers for the lecture and lab. Since the writing for the course is done in the lab portion, the writing designator
should be assigned to the lab course.

      The motion passed unanimously.

14. Motion was made and seconded to remove the W designator from CHE 4560, Instrumental Analysis, and to consider new course CHE 3561, Instrumental Analysis Laboratory, for W designator. The motion passed unanimously.

15. Motion was made and seconded to remove the W designator from MAT 1010, Introduction to Mathematics.

Dr. Bill Bauldry explained that the department would need to increase the class size for MAT 1010 sections to 30 students
beginning in Fall 2005 and that it would not be practical to teach a writing course with that many students. It was noted that
Education majors are required to take MAT 1010 and the removal of the W designator may cause problems with these
students meeting requirements for graduation. Dr. Bauldry agreed to work with the School of Education to try to find a
suitable substitute course that could more easily take on the extra writing required by the designator. He will report progress
on this issue to the committee.

The motion passed with seven in favor and one opposed.

16. Motion was made and seconded to consider MAT 1010, Introduction to Mathematics, for CD designator.

Dr. Bauldry explained that the course has eight different modules to choose from. Each section of the course will complete
four modules during the semester. Each module involves the application of math to another field.

      The motion passed unanimously.
