The Core Curriculum Council held its first meeting of the 2002-2003 year on Friday, September 27, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. in the Mountain Laurel Room, Plemmons Student Union.  The following members were in attendance:  Dr. Rennie Brantz,  Dr. Ann Viles, Dr. Alicia Aldridge,  Dr. David Domermuth, Dr. Jean DeHart, Dr. Bill Ward, Dr. Mary Quinn, Dr. Melanie Greene, Dr. Tim Silver, Dr. Victor Mansure, Dr. Alex Pitofsky, Dr. Michael Lane and Ms. Joni Petschauer.  Guests in attendance were: Dr. Stan Aeschleman, Dr. Ruth Ann Strickland, Dr. Jim Young, Dr. Dave Haney and  Dr. Bill Harbinson.

Dr. Brantz called the meeting to order at 3:05 p.m., welcomed those in attendance, and briefly explained the origins, development, and operational procedures of the council.

MOTIONS AND ACTIONS

1.  Motion was made and seconded to consider the minutes of the April 26, 2002 Core Curriculum Council meeting for approval.  The motion was approved unanimously.

2.  Consideration of the following proposals.

a. Motion was made and seconded to consider ENG 2532, Ethnic American Literature, for W designator. Motion was passed unanimously.

b. Motion was made and seconded to consider ENG 2532, Ethnic American Literature, for MC designator. Motion was approved unanimously.

c. Motion was made and seconded to consider ENG 2532, Ethnic American Literature, for Humanities credit. The motion was passed  unanimously.

d. Motion was made and seconded to consider PLN/COM 4425, Task-oriented Group Facilitation, for S designator.  The motion was approved  unanimously.

e. Motion was made and seconded to consider CJ 4900, Internship, for the S designator. The motion was passed unanimously.

f. Motion was made and seconded to consider CJ 3400, Theories of Crime, remove the S designator.  The motion was passed unanimously.

g. Motion was made and seconded to consider PS 3310, Political Ideologies, for MC designator.  The motion  passed unanimously.

h. Motion was made and seconded to consider change in science requirement for Music Therapy students to be BIO 1101 and ES 2000.  The motion passed unanimously contingent on the discussion of prerequisites by chairs in the two departments.

i. Motion was made and seconded to delete PSY 3201, Child Psychology.  The motion passed unanimously.

j. Motion was made and seconded to consider PSY 4202, Child and Adoloescent Psychology, for the W designator.  Motion was tabled pending receipt of more information.

k. Motion was made and seconded to consider PSY 4562, Psychology of Aging, for name change to Psychology of Adulthood and course description change.  Motion was passed unanimously.

l. Motion was made and seconed to consider PSY 4201, Advanced Social and Personality Psychology, for the W designator.  The motion was passed unanimously.

m. Motion was made and seconded to consider PSY 3206, Industrial Psychology, for the W designator.  Motion failed.

n. Motion was made and seconded to consider PSY 4660, Psychological Test and Measurements, to remove the W designator.  The motion was passed unanimously.

o. Motion was made and seconded to consider PSY 3205, Biological Psychology (changed to Physiological Psychology), for CD designator.  The motion was passed unanimously.

p. Motion was made and seconded to consider PSY 4665, Advanced General Psychology, for S designator.  The motion was passed unanimously.

3. Dr. Brantz noted FYI topics on agenda.

     PLN/COM 4425, Task-oriented Group Facilitation Methods, add to undergraduate catalog (prevoiusly offered as
        Special Topics course)

     PSY 4202, Child and Adolescent Psychology, add to undergradaute catalog.

    PSY 4201, Advanced Social and Personality Psychology, add to undergradaute catalog.

    PSY 3206, Industrial Psychology, change number to PSY 4206 and add PSY 2264, Research Methods, as a prerequsite.

    PSY 3025, Physiological Psychology, change name to Biological Psychology and add prerequisite of PSY 2664, Research
            Methods, or permission of instructor.

Meeting adjourned at 4:25pm.  The next meeting will be held on October 25th at 3pm.  Location is currently Mountain Laurel room.  Because of space requirements other accommodations are being researched.
